We are recruiting three voluntary roles for the Inner City Women’s Group Board. 

  • Trustee
  • Board Treasurer
  • Board Intern (non Voting)

For over 30 years Inner City Women’s Group (ICWG), an independent Charitable Trust, has supported women, especially those affected by domestic violence. This support has never been more important, as the cost of living crisis puts huge stress on families/whānau across Aotearoa. We are proud of the collaborative spirit that defines our mahi and our shared values of mana wāhine, mana motuhake, pono, and whanaungatanga that guide our decisions

It’s our mission to support these women and:

  • Assist women through education and empowerment to make good decisions for themselves and their family/whānau.
  • Prioritise the safety of women and children, families/whānau.
  • Work in a culturally appropriate manner through acknowledging women's cultures.
  • Break the cycle of domestic violence and child abuse.
  • Offer expertise and skills training through the provision of community based services.

The Board Treasurer Role

Inner City Women’s Group (ICWG) is seeking expressions of interest for a volunteer Board Treasurer to join our governance team. This is a vital role for someone passionate about empowering women and contributing to a well-established charitable trust supporting those affected by domestic violence.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Financial literacy and confidence with interpreting financial reports, budgets, and statements.
  • Experience in financial oversight, ideally within a not-for-profit or community organisation.
  • Understanding of governance responsibilities, including risk management and compliance.
  • Familiarity with accounting software or financial systems (e.g., Xero, MYOB) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with the board and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to attending monthly 2-hour board meetings and engaging in email correspondence between meetings.

 The Board Intern Role

We are also seeking expressions of interest for a Board Intern to join our governance team in a non-voting capacity. This is a valuable opportunity for someone who is passionate about social justice, eager to learn about governance, and committed to supporting women and whānau affected by domestic violence.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is interested in developing governance experience and learning how boards operate.
  • Has a strategic mindset and is curious about how not-for-profit organisations thrive and sustain impact.
  • Brings skills or knowledge in areas such as social services, domestic violence, communications, finance, or community development.
  • Has the ability to read and interpret information, including financial and strategic documents.
  • Is committed to attending monthly 2-hour board meetings and engaging in email correspondence between meetings.
  • Priority will go to candidates who have lived or professional experience with diverse communities, especially Māori and Pasifika.
  • This is a chance to grow your leadership skills, gain insight into governance, and contribute to meaningful change in your community.

Experience working with diverse communities (Lived & Professional), especially Māori and Pasifika, is highly valued for both Roles.
